According to them, an attack with a knife on the critic of Islam Michael Sturerzenberger in Mannheim was already a popular theme of online search in Russia before the attack.
Four days before the attack from Russia, searches for “terrorist attack in Mannheim”, “attack in Germany”, “attack on Michael Strüzenberger” or “Michael Sturerzenberger Krizzani” were received.
According to Brosharty, it can testify to the preliminary awareness of the crime: “We actually find searches from Russia about the offender in advance, about the name of the offender, and it is already very, very unusual.”
On the eve of the terrorist attack in Mannheim, Russian users also searched for online trays on the market square of the city where the attack occurred, “which is also very impressive,” adds a specialist.
A member of the Bundestag Parliament Committee, Konstantin von Netz from the Green, in a comment by ZDF, noted that the suspicious Internet activity in Russia was not proof of a Russian trace in Mannheim’s terrorist attack.
“I think it is quite obvious that these digital traces, as well as the evaluation and analysis of these digital traces can be an important component in order to approach the truth, and in this sense they must be taken into account,” he said.
We will remind, the striker in Mannheim in May last year was a seeker of asylum from Afghanistan. He killed a police officer with a knife and wounded five more people.
It was the first series of attacks with a knife or car attacks on crowds of people committed by foreign citizens who have stirred Germany over the last year.
