German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called US President Donald Trump on Thursday to supply weapons to Ukraine, a German leadership spokesman told Reuters.

Merz initiated a conversation with Trump, said the spokesman on Friday.

Spiegel magazine also reported this conversation.

Washington does not report these negotiations.

Trump and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky have taken place today.

These negotiations took place against the backdrop of stops of supply to Ukraine from the US with some types of weapons and a massive attack of the Russian Federation in Kiev.

The day before, Trump had a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, who, he said, did not produce the result, and he is “dissatisfied” with the situation in Ukraine.

“I have not made any progress with him at all,” Trump told reporters after a conversation on July 3.

As reported in the Kremlin, Putin said during the call that “Russia would reach its goals” in Ukraine and will not abandon them, despite the hope of the White House for ceasefire. At the same time, the Russian leader declared Russia’s readiness for the negotiation process.

In recent months, against the background of the activation of Russian air strikes in Ukrainian cities, Kiev has constantly appealed to Western Allies to increase the supply of air defense systems. During the final press conference of the NATO summit in Hague last week, President Donald Trump announced that the United States will consider the sale of additional Patriot systems to Ukraine.
