It would then take years of fierce debate before Parliament agreed in 2022 to allow the great drones, such as Heron TP, which fly at much higher altitudes, to carry weapons.
However, military modernization is more urgent for Germany now, against the background of a continuing war between Russia and Ukraine and doubts about future military protection from the United States.
In particular, it is known that last month the German Parliament approved plans for a sharp increase in defense costs by hundreds of billions of euros.
According to Reuters interlocutors, contracts with two companies for the first batch of Dronov-Kamikadze will be signed in the coming days. The army, air and naval forces of Germany will test them for the next months.
“The use of drones and protection against them is crucial for the survival of our troops in the modern battlefield is why we have learned in Ukraine. Every soldier should be able to manage drones, just as everyone today know how to use binoculars,” one of the anonymous interlocutors said.
The agency claims that by the end of the year, Germany will try to sign long -term contracts for more drones, which will reduce the period of introduction of new weapons, which usually lasts for years.
Since drones technology is developing rapidly, the transactions will state that companies will first supply a limited number of devices for training purposes, and they may later be asked to put more recent models as soon as possible, if necessary.
“There is no point in buying thousands of drones just to understand that they are outdated by the time we need,” one of the interlocutors added.
