On the border with Armenia, a citizen of Georgia, a 29-year-old George Kinoan, who was wanted by the Russian Federation was detained on charges of participating in hostilities against Russia in Ukraine, reports Radio Svoboda project “Echo of the Caucasus”.

He has now been appointed 40-day extradition imprisonment. The family fears for the health and life of a man in the event of his extradition to Russia. George Kinojan was detained on September 3, 2025 after the border crossing from Georgia to Armenia.

“The Armenian border guards stopped him and detained him, because, as they said, a message was shown in the computer that George was wanted to be wanted at the request of Russia, and his detention was needed,” said his brother Vako Kinoan.

According to him, on the same day, George was first transferred to the police department, then to a temporary detention center, and on September 5, at about 23:00, the court assigned him an extradition imprisonment.

The Armenian Radio Liberty Service contacted the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs for additional information in Georgy Kinoan, but has not yet received the answer.

The only hope of family now is to turn to the power of Georgia, relatives have already done so through the Georgia Embassy in Armenia.

“In this situation, the only thing I am left to hope for Georgia is that she will demand to return her citizen and be able to do so that this story remains a small episode … In the case of extradition, everyone knows what can happen. At best, there is a risk of inhumane treatment. Personally, I think of much worse … Georgia should not allow it, ”Vako Kinoan said in a comment to Radio Liberty.

On October 25, 2024, the Russian court in occupied Donetsk condemned George Kinojan in absentia to seven years in prison. He is found guilty of “participation in mercenary fighting.”

The press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia reported that George Kinoyan was not wanted by Interpol channels. It was wanted by Russia through the system to which the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries have access. Georgian border guards who did not have access to this base could not know that Kinoan was wanted, so they could not warn him about it.
