In Lviv on December 23 paratroopers of the 80th separate assault assault brigade of Galiciawho are undergoing rehabilitation after being wounded, presented the largest Trident in Ukraine, made of grandfathers, with the support of the military and veterans reintegration program “MHP Poruch”. This symbol of Ukrainian statehood and Christmas traditions was installed on the square near the monument to Taras Shevchenko.

A 91-year-old woman taught military men the art of weaving grandfather clocks Pelagia Zhivko from Lviv region.

“The main goal of the event is support for military personnel and veterans on the road to rehabilitation. Together with the military man, Pelagia Zhivko made grandfathers. The woman survived 5 wars, persecution by the Soviet authorities, deportation and imprisonment of relatives in Siberia. Despite this, Pelagia wove Santa Clauses every year and brought them into the house for Christmas. And for the second year in a row, he is passing on his knowledge and skills to the next generation. Because culture is an important factor in this struggle, because it is through culture that we create and spread the values and meanings that are important to us.” — tells Olena Zhivkoveteran, head of the NGO “Union of Volunteers”.

Grandfathers for the design of the trident were made of wheat and rye. 30 sheaves of wheat were collected in the fields of the enterprise “West-Agro MHP” in the Lviv region, and 7 sheaves of rye were brought from Volyn, where another enterprise of the Western Hub operates “MHP-Buffalo”.

Director of the Western Hub of the MHP Viktor Koryaginnoted: “Within the program “MHP Poruch” and thanks to this event, our first priority is to support military and veterans on the road to rehabilitation. And it is not only about physical recovery, but also mental, increasing motivation for life and new achievements. One of the effective methods of such rehabilitation is the involvement of the military in art therapy, in particular, grandfather weaving. This process has a therapeutic effect, it calms, relieves stress and anxiety. And the main thing – sets connection with Ukrainian traditionsbecause the warriors who cannot be on the battlefield now continue this struggle for our identity in such a beautiful way as the weaving of grandfathers. I invite all Ukrainians to come and see this trident created by the hands of our Defenders.”

This event, which was initiated by NGO “Union of Volunteers”in addition to an important cultural component, has an additional value – support of the military during rehabilitation. That’s why Charitable Foundation “MHP-Community” and the Lviv Regional State Administration provided him with comprehensive support.

“This trident from grandfathers is not only a symbol of our statehood and Christmas traditions, but also an example of how art can be a powerful rehabilitation tool for our warriors. Participation in the creation of this unique symbol, using wheat and rye harvested in the fields of our strategic partner, the MHP company, is an important stage of mental recovery and struggle for a new life after injury. I invite all Ukrainians to see this trident, created by the hands of our Defenders, and feel proud of their resilience and talent. This is not just art, but a symbol of our indomitability,” — says Oleksandr Pakholiukdirector of the “MHP-Community” Charitable Foundation.

We will remind you that last year a record was set in the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life – a 7.41-meter-high Trident made of grandfathers, which entered the National Register of Records of Ukraine. This year’s project was updated, improved, made more impressive.

On Christmas and New Year in Lviv, there are many activities for residents and guests of the city. The main goal of which is to discover the authentic traditions of Ukrainians, immerse yourself in the atmosphere of learning about your own roots, and realize our common unity carried over through the centuries.
