During a short ceremony, Frank-Valter Steinmeyer joked that Merz arrived at him “with a little delay”-referring to the approval of his candidacy on his second attempt.

Finally, he handed Martz a document with the words: “Mr. Chancellor, on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany, I appoint Mr. Friedrich Merz Chancellor.”

Members of the Merz Government should also take the oath in the near future.

Shortly before the 325 Bundestag deputies, the new convocation supported the appointment of CDU leader Chancellor.

It happened during a re -vote – after the failure of the first attempt in the morning of May 6, which became an unprecedented case.

Only six votes were not enough for a positive result. At the same time, there are 328 deputies from the Christian Democratic Union and the SPD.
