On Friday afternoon, Judge Sandra Liliana Edia read a sentence during a court hearing, in which Uribue and his lawyers participated remotely. His lawyers have already stated that they would challenge the sentence.

The judge rejected the lawyer’s request to leave Uribier for the time of appeal, explaining that he “could easily leave the country to avoid punishment.” Urbea is ordered to appear in the police in Rionegro, near Medelin, where he resides, and “return to his home immediately” for house arrest.

According to the investigation, Uribier conspired with his lawyer to persuade three former members of right -wing paramilitary groups that were prison to change their testimonies, which they gave Senator Ivan Sepedi, who began an investigation into alleged ties with armed groups.

In 2012, Uribue filed a lawsuit against the Suppeda to the Supreme Court, accusing him of the slander. However, the court rejected the complaint and opened criminal proceedings in 2018 against Uribue itself.

Ubrib held the post of President in 2002-2010 and gained widespread support for society through rigid anti -rebel policy and attracting foreign investments. His supporters consider him a national hero, while critics are accused of numerous human rights violations and the potential influence of paramilitarian structures.

The United States, which actively supported the Ubrib anti -rebel campaigns, stood up for Uribue. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the court’s decision as a “politicized use of Colombia judicial system by radical judges.”
