Russian Shahed-type attack drones that attacked Sumy in the morning were equipped with shrapnel, Volodymyr Artyukh, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, said in a comment to Suspilno.

According to him, “these weapons are used to destroy people, not to destroy objects. This is the first time in Sumy.”

In Sumy, two people were killed as a result of a Russian strike, the acting media reported on November 22. of the mayor Artem Kobzar.

“Several powerful explosions were heard in the city of Sumy,” he said in a video statement on Telegram. Kobzar added that representatives of the State Emergency Service, the police, and “ambulance” are working at the site of the explosions.

He also warned that there is a threat of a second strike by “Shaheeds” and that air defense is operating in the city. The Sumy Regional Military Administration added that 12 people were also wounded as a result of the Russian attack on a residential neighborhood of Sumy.

Emergency and rescue operations are ongoing, OVA noted.

The Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces warned at night about a Russian drone attack on Ukraine. As of 6 a.m., the military informed about “Shahedy” in Sumy Oblast, Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Zhytomyr Oblasts.

The Russian military regularly attacks Ukrainian regions with various types of weapons – attack UAVs, rockets, anti-aircraft missiles, and anti-aircraft missiles.

The leadership of Russia denies that the Russian army during a full-scale war inflicts targeted strikes on the civilian infrastructure of the cities and villages of Ukraine, killing the civilian population and destroying hospitals, schools, kindergartens, energy and water supply facilities.

The Ukrainian authorities and international organizations qualify these strikes as war crimes by the Russian Federation and emphasize that they are purposeful in nature.

As of the end of October, the UN reported that they were able to confirm data on the death of 12,162 civilians in Ukraine and the wounding of 26,919 since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia. The organization emphasized that the real data could be much higher.
