Details: Fico once again accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of “sabotaging the financial interests of Slovakia and the EU” by refusing to continue the transit of Russian gas.

He confirmed that he will meet with EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen in Brussels on Thursday, January 9 and do “everything possible to wake him up from his sweet sleep.”

“Neither Slovakia nor the EU is in a state of war, we have no reason to tolerate Zelenskyi’s adventures, especially considering the aid that Slovakia and the EU provide to Ukraine,” the Slovak prime minister said.

Fico then recalled his scandalous trip to Moscow and meeting with Vladimir Putin, saying that he was forced to go precisely because of Ukraine’s decision on transit.

“I needed to provide at least gas for Slovakia’s internal consumption, which we did, even without raising gas prices,” he said, without specifying how exactly he planned to get this gas.

The contract between Ukraine and Russia for the transit of gas to Europe expired at the end of 2024 after the Ukrainian side decided not to renew it.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico sharply criticized Kyiv for these actions and wrote a letter to the EU leaders expressing dissatisfaction with the actions of the Ukrainian side.

He also threatened to cut off electricity supplies or cut aid to Ukrainian refugees in Slovakia in response.
