US President Donald Trump has announced the introduction of 10% of the minimum duties on most imported goods, as well as much higher duties on goods from dozens of countries, including China, which is likely to cause counter -commissions that can potentially lead to rising prices and decrease in demand for US goods.

It is noted that Ukraine is one of the world’s largest producers and corn exporters.

“If key importers eventually enter into American corn duties, it will open a huge window of opportunity for alternative suppliers, ”the ASAP Agri consulting company said in a statement. – “Ukrainian corn has strong positions here: competitive price, stable logistics, close ties with the European Union and Asian Markets.”

Another consulting company, Barva Invest, noted that Ukraine is perceived by the United States as an export competitor in the grain and oilseed market, not as a trading partner, and potential controversing by other countries on US export will have the greatest impact.

At the same time, the EU, Australia and China are most likely to take such measures that opens strategic opportunities for Ukraine where it competes directly with the United States.

“First of all, it is a corn, soybean and wheat market, more indirectly – rapeseed, sunflower oil and barley, ”Barva Invest said.

Ukraine produced 32 million tons of corn in 2023 and 26 million tons in 2024.

According to the UKAB Association, the country exported almost 30 million tons in the 2023/24 season and probably send 22 million tons in 2024/25.

This year, farmers will probably increase the acreage under corn, as export prices for corn are profitable, Reuters writes.

Ukraine has also collected a record 6.2 million tons of soybean in 2024, and about half of this crop can be exported this season.

Soybean harvest in Ukraine in 2025 can range from 5.8 to 6.2 million tons, and the final volume will depend on the presence or absence of rain in May and June.

According to the State Customs Service, in January-February 2025, the most exported from Ukraine was corn.

In 2 months of 2025, 4.7 million tons of this cereal culture were exported from Ukraine, worth $ 982 million. It has become a key product for export, accounting for 26.5% of agricultural exports and 16% of Ukraine exports as a whole.

As reported, in 2024 Ukraine exported agricultural products worth $ 24.5 billion (59% in total export). This figure was only in 2021 only – then it reached $ 27.7 billion.

The largest share in last year’s agro -export is 21%of sunflower oil. It exported almost 6 million tons per $ 5.1 billion.

In second place, corn – 21%, which exported 29.6 million tons per $ 5 billion.

The third – wheat – 15%, which is 20.6 million tons per $ 3.7 billion.

Among export leaders also rapeseed – 7% (3.8 million tons per $ 1.8 billion), soybean – 5% (3.4 million tons per $ 1.3 billion), cake and residues obtained during the extraction of vegetable fats and oils – 4% (4.7 million tons per $ 1 billion).
