“Everything is grand in the past.” Olympic champion Irina Merleni trains her son in Sweden

For her career, Irina became the world champion three times. The Ukrainians also conquered the Gold of the 2004 Olympics and Beijing Bronze-2008. After completing his sports career, Merley was engaged in dancing and vocals, but now works as a trainer in Sweden.

In conversation with NV journalist Andriy Pavlechko, the legendary Irina Merleni shared that she is now living a peaceful life, and also spoke about the success of her younger son, who deals with the Greco-Roman struggle.

– You had a birthday on February 8. How did you celebrate?

She celebrated in a family circle.

– Have you made yourself a gift?

Nothing special. I do not remember to make myself a gift. I live ordinary life without much events. All the grandiose remained in the past. Now I have a quiet and normal life. The only thing you really want is to wait for peace in Ukraine. Our people deserve peace, happiness and peace. It is very painful to watch what is happening.

– Our interview takes place after the fight. Tell us about them.

My son, who is 13 years old, is engaged in Greco-Roman struggle and participated in these competitions. I work as a trainer abroad, namely in Sweden and train him and his peers.

– After your career, you were engaged in dancing and vocals.

I tried a lot, but unfortunately, I do not do it now. I work as a trainer. My younger son is engaged in struggle, and the elder lives with parents in Ukraine. Earlier he was engaged in karate and became a bronze medalist of the European Cadet Championship. Now we live with his younger son in Sweden. We recently participated in Finland competitions, where my Adam won a silver medal.
