European Council President António Costa Visits Kyiv on War Anniversary

On February 24, European Council President António Costa arrived in Kyiv for an official visit. This trip coincides with the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, marking four years of ongoing conflict.

In a post on social media platform X, Costa expressed the purpose of his visit: to promote a “fair and lasting peace in Ukraine.” He reflected on the resilience of Ukraine amidst the war, stating, “Four years of unjust war by aggressors. Four years of unwavering Ukrainian courage. Four years of steadfast support from Europe. One common decision: to ensure a fair and lasting peace in Ukraine. That is why we are here today in Kyiv.”

Upon his arrival at the Kyiv railway station, Costa was welcomed by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. Sybiha acknowledged the support from allies during the ongoing conflict, emphasizing the significance of February 24, 2022, as a pivotal moment in European history.

“February 24, 2022, forever divided European history into ‘before’ and ‘after.’ It is symbolic that on this day, the EU leadership stands with us,” Sybiha remarked.

Additionally, on the same morning, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, also arrived in Kyiv, highlighting the EU’s commitment to Ukraine during this challenging period.

António Costa's visit to Kyiv on the anniversary of the Russian invasion underscores the European Union's commitment to supporting Ukraine.
