EU leaders supported a new defense plan on large -scale defense investment

The leaders of 27 European Union countries supported the idea of ​​the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Lien on the strengthening of the EU’s defense capacity of the Rearm Europe (“Rearm Europe”) and proposes the EU Council to consider the possibility of attracting 150 billion euros of credit for defense.

Details: The text of the European Council’s conclusions refers to the corresponding letter of von der Liaien to the EU leaders, in which it outlined the basic principles of Rearm Europe (“Rearm Europe”).

“Based on their previous conclusions and in accordance with the relevant powers granted by the contracts, as well as in the light of the recent letter of the President of the Commission, the European Council emphasizes the need to continue to significantly increase the expenditures on the security and defense of Europe,” the document reads.

The Euro Council also appealed to the EU Council with a proposal to consider urgently to attract EU countries up to € 150 billion in defense loans.

“The European Council … takes into account the commission’s intention to put forward a proposal for a new EU tool to provide Member States for EU-made loans for up to 150 billion euros, and proposes the Council to consider this proposal as an urgent order,” the conclusions say.

The European Council called on the European Commission “to propose additional sources of funding at the EU level, including with the help of additional opportunities and incentives offered to all Member States … and to submit appropriate proposals quickly.”

“The European Council will return to this issue (European defense – ed.) At its meetings in March and June,” the document reads.

We will remind, on March 4, the President of the European Commission Ursula von Der Lyen presented the Rearm Europe program, which can mobilize up to 800 billion euros for defense.
