According to the Prime Minister, Estonia still believes that the best way to guarantee Ukraine’s security in NATO is to guarantee its membership, but if joining the Alliance requires time, Ukraine should be “guaranteed the possibility of restraint and defense through allied troops based on a place.”

An independent, independent Ukraine, which is part of the European family, will be the best strategic guarantee against Moscow’s imperialism for all of us. We must demonstrate that, in addition to good ideas, we are also capable of actions, ”Michal said.
According to The Times, Europe will be difficult to gather 25,000 military people for a peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine, since its army is undergraduate and underfunded.
The newspaper writes that the head of the UK defense headquarters Tony Radakin addressed his colleagues with the idea of forming 64,000 forces to send to Ukraine. However, at the next meetings, the defense ministers of European countries stated that there are no chances on a contingent of this size, and even a 25,000th contingent will require joint efforts.

The possibility of sending foreign military to Ukraine has been discussed since 2024, and in January 2025, the placement of British and French soldiers in Ukraine began to discuss more substantially the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Kir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine would do everything to make political decisions on the security contingent as quickly as possible, “when time will be time.”
Moscow categorically disagrees with the deployment of Western troops in Ukraine. In particular, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Moscow did not see a compromise in the question of the potential placement of the European Peacekeeping Continent in Ukraine. According to him, it will mean “a direct, official, unconcealed involvement of NATO countries in a war against Russia.”
