“Estonia has declared its readiness to allocate three million euros for the purchase and support of Starlink satellite communication systems for Ukraine, said the head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal. “I am grateful for Estonia’s offer to allocate 3 million euros for the purchase and support of Starlink satellite communication systems,” Shmyhal wrote on the X social network after meeting with Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur. The minister also said that strengthening of air defense, production of drones and creation of joint defense enterprises were discussed during the meeting. Last month, Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister of Digitalization Krzysztof Hawkowski criticized President Karol Nawrocki for vetoing an amendment to the law on assistance to citizens of Ukraine, which, he said, would lead to the disconnection of Starlink provided by Poland to Ukraine. Navrotskyi’s office denied this. The possibility to use Starlink terminals in Ukraine appeared at the end of February 2022. So far, the Estonian side has not announced the results of the ministerial meeting.
Last month, the First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov, reminded that more than 50,000 Starlink terminals are currently operating in Ukraine, more than 29,000 have been transferred by Polish partners. He added that Poland continues to finance Starlink terminals in Ukraine.
