Details: Epstein actively offered insider information about Donald Trump to the Russian leadership, in particular to Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. This comes from the released correspondence, where Epstein positions himself as the key to understanding the US president ahead of his historic meeting with Vladimir Putin.

The central episode that testifies to Epstein’s attempts to pass information to the Russians is his letter dated June 24, 2018, addressed to the former Prime Minister of Norway, Thurbjorn Jagland, who at the time headed the Council of Europe. In a letter sent a month before the historic summit between Trump and Putin in Helsinki, Epstein said he was ready to help Russians better understand Trump.
“I think you could suggest to Putin that Lavrov get information by talking to me,” he wrote, referring to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
In correspondence released by US Congressional investigators, Epstein also mentioned his conversations with Vitaly Churkin, Russia’s former ambassador to the UN, who died in 2017.
“Churkin was wonderful. He understood Trump after our conversations. It’s not difficult. You just have to see to understand, everything is so simple,” wrote Epstein.
It follows from the correspondence that Jagland accepted the offer and replied that he would meet with Lavrov’s assistant the next day and suggest that he contact Epstein. It is currently unknown whether this contact resulted and whether any information was actually shared.
After the summit itself in Helsinki, which caused a flurry of criticism of Trump, Epstein discussed its results with other influential people.
When asked by former US Treasury Secretary Larry Summers: “Do the Russians have classified information on Trump?”, Epstein said the president’s behavior was “predictable” and added: “I’m sure in his mind it went very well. He thinks he charmed his opponent.”
According to Epstein, Trump “has no idea about the symbolism or the deeper meaning of what is happening.”
The White House reacted to the publication of these materials. White House press secretary Caroline Levitt said the letters “prove nothing other than that President Trump has done nothing wrong.” Trump himself, on his own social network Truth Social, called the publicity surrounding Epstein’s letters “another attempt by the Democrats to divert attention from the problems with the shutdown of the US government.”
