“Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada approved the Law on Energoatom Permission to buy equipment for the third and fourth units of Khmelnitsky NPP in Bulgaria”, – WRITE: www.radiosvoboda.org
“The parties discussed the key aspects of improving the safety of Khmelnitsky NPPs No. 3 and No. 4, which will be completed using the Belen Bulgarian NPP equipment. Westinghouse is currently conducting a GAP analysis of the project X3, X4 for the introduction of modern security systems, including long-term heat removal from the tight fence of the reactor department, ”the message reads.
The meeting also agreed to continue working on the Westinghouse fuel adaptation for power units, including the 18-month overload option, added to Energoatom.
On February 15, at the Munich Conference, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Ukraine is preparing a project of expansion of Khmelnitsky NPP with the involvement of American business, in particular, Westinghouse.
The Verkhovna Rada approved the Law on Energoatom Permission to buy equipment for the third and fourth units of Khmelnitsky NPP in Bulgaria.
Energoatom congratulated this decision of the Parliament, calling it a strategic decision, which will “enhance the energy independence and security of the country, contributing to the further development of nuclear energy and strengthening the national power system.”
However, the critics of the document, among other things, note that Ukraine will buy and build “Russian reactors during the war with Russia”, and the completion of power units at Khmelnitsky NPP is an expensive pleasure, whose estimate is definitely unknown.
Bulgaria’s Parliament has previously granted permission to negotiate equipment. Moreover, it was decided that the equipment from the Belen nuclear power station should be sold for at least 600 million euros.
The Khmelnytsky NPP now has two reactors – the first built in 1987, and the second – already in an independent Ukraine in 2004. The total capacity of two VVER-1000 reactors is 2000 megawatts.
