“The company emphasized that restriction of access to IAEA inspectors to a number of zones of the station hinders objective control over its condition”, – WRITE: www.radiosvoboda.org
The company emphasized that the further stay of the ZPP in the occupation creates security risks and grossly violates the International Nuclear and Radiation Safety Conventions.
According to the company, the technical condition of the ZPP eliminates the possibility of safe restart. The station has serious problems: exhausted nuclear fuel resource, energy restrictions, lack of skilled personnel, equipment deficit and lack of a critically important absorber. In addition, the degradation of equipment due to lack of maintenance and repairs creates preconditions for emergencies.
Energoatom also stated that the statement of “professional management” of the station of “Rosatom” is not true, and the availability of armed formations, military equipment and militarization of the object are direct threats to nuclear security.
Separately, the company emphasized that restriction of access to IAEA inspectors to a number of zones of the station prevents objective control over its condition.
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia called the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant a “Russian nuclear object” and categorically refused to transfer it to Ukraine or any other state, stating that the station should remain exclusively under the control of the Russian Federation.
Zaporizhzhya NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. Russian troops occupied the city of Energodar and located near him Zaporizhzhya NPP in early March 2022.
The territory of the station periodically undergoes shelling in which Ukraine and Russia are accused of each other. The Ukrainian side from time to time states that the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant is on the verge of Blacka through Russian shelling and as a result of damage to power lines.
Kyiv also stated that the Russian army was used by the NPP to store military equipment and dislocation of its servicemen.
