The message states that the creation of the Central-Northern European Military Mobile Region (CNE MMA) is aimed at unifying the rules for crossing state borders, ensuring joint control and coordination of means of transportation, effective information exchange and synchronous development of infrastructure.
Based on the existing Netherlands-Germany-Poland model corridor and with the aim of forming a single Central-Northern European military mobile region, it is planned to expand this network in the west through Belgium and Luxembourg, and in the east through Lithuania, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
“Coordinated military mobility is a national priority of Lithuania. It is ensured by the constant development of infrastructure and the coordination of movements, which enables the allied forces to move quickly, safely and without interruption,” Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas was quoted in the message.
“Lithuania’s main goal is to strengthen infrastructural cooperation on NATO’s eastern flank, especially in close cooperation with neighboring allies Poland and Latvia.
To realize this strategic goal, various sources of funding are used, both national and EU development funds,” he adds.
Lithuania was invited to join the Central-Northern European Military Mobility Zone after participating as an observer in the pilot project on military mobility of the Netherlands, Germany and Poland.
Currently, important infrastructure projects are being implemented in Lithuania to ensure convenient movement of military units.
Among them are the strategic adaptation of Via Baltica for military purposes and the planned Lazdiai-Alytus-Vilnius road project to increase capacity in the Suwalki corridor.
Significant investments are also directed to the improvement of the internal transport network, which is necessary to connect the territories of the places of permanent deployment with the main training grounds of the country.
To further strengthen regional security and ensure strategic continuity of movement, Lithuania, together with other Baltic countries, plans to create a Tri-Baltic zone of military mobility.
This initiative will expand the Central-North European region of military mobility to the north, creating a continuous space for the unhindered movement of troops, which is critical for effective deterrence and regional security.
As reported, they are preparing in the European Union “military Schengen” planto speed up the movement of soldiers and weapons.
The European Commission is allegedly working on the “military Schengen” project, which provides for the creation of an EU military mobility zone, which should ensure the rapid transportation of soldiers, weapons and ammunition in the event of a possible armed conflict with Russia.
We will remind, on October 16, the European Commission presented a road map defense readiness of the EU until 2030.
