The war waged against Ukraine cannot end with the victory of Russia – a just peace is needed, which will prevent the occurrence of an even greater conflict in the future.

Polish President Andrzej Duda stated this in his New Year’s address, Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the war on our eastern border has been absolutely crucial to our security. Our position is constant and unchanging: this war cannot end with the victory of Russia. It should end with a just peace, which will make it possible to prevent the emergence of a new, perhaps even bigger, conflict in the future,” said Duda.

He also emphasized that Poland’s security is based on two pillars: a strong and modern army and the strength of alliances. The head of state recalled that in March in Washington he presented a proposal to increase defense spending of all North Atlantic Alliance countries to 3% of GDP.

“I am glad that today more and more countries are joining my initiative, because only a strong NATO led by the USA guarantees the security of Poland and our entire region,” the president said.

Therefore, he called the strengthening of cooperation between the EU and the USA the primary task of the Polish presidency of the European Union in the first half of 2025.

As reported by Ukrinform, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at a meeting of the Council of Ministers that the Baltic Sea should become a zone of increased military control after a series of “strange events” involving Russian and Chinese ships.
