On Sunday, April 5, Russian forces launched a drone strike on Kharkiv, according to Mayor Ihor Terekhov’s Telegram update. The attack involved a Shahed drone, which struck the Shevchenkivskyi district.
Terekhov reported that the strike resulted in injuries, with details about the number of casualties and their conditions still being confirmed. He noted that windows in nearby residential buildings were shattered, and assessments of the area are ongoing.
Oleh Synehubov, head of the regional military administration, added that the drone impacted the ground near a residential structure, causing damage to the windows of several homes. A 61-year-old woman was reported injured, suffering from acute stress reaction.
According to Terekhov, the attack damaged six apartment buildings, affecting windows, roofs, gas lines, and sewage systems. Russian military forces have been consistently targeting Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure using various weapons, including drones, missiles, and multiple rocket launchers.
Ukrainian authorities and international organizations classify these strikes as war crimes, emphasizing their deliberate nature. Attacks on essential services and healthcare facilities are seen as attempts to deprive civilians of basic necessities, raising concerns about genocidal actions.
The Russian government denies that its military targets civilian infrastructure, claiming that it does not intentionally harm civilians or destroy hospitals, schools, and essential utilities.
