Drama Bucha won the second place according to the results of audience voting at the Warsaw Film Festival

On Sunday, October 20, the 40th Warsaw International Film Festival ended in Warsaw. The day before, its organizers announced the winners of the main competition, and after the festival, they tallied up the results of the audience voting. At once, four films about Ukraine, as well as those made by Ukraine or in collaboration with Ukraine, were awarded prizes by audience voting. On Sunday, October 20, the 40th Warsaw International Film Festival ended in Warsaw. The day before, its organizers announced the winners of the main competition, and after the festival, they tallied up the results of the audience voting.

At once, four films about Ukraine, as well as films shot by Ukraine or in collaboration with Ukraine, were awarded prizes of audience voting.

Thus, the drama Buch about the terrible events in the suburbs of Kyiv in February-March 2022, directed by Stanislav Tiunov, took second place according to the results of audience voting in the feature films section. The first place in this section went to the Polish film Where to start (Where do we Begin) directed by Monika Mayorek.

At once, three films about Ukraine or shot in Ukraine took the first three places in the category of documentary films. The first place went to the tape Military Correspondent (War Correspondent) by Czech directors Bejamin Tucek and David Chalek. It tells about the work of military reporter Martin Dorazin, who investigates the lives of Ukrainian civilians living in the war, the unification and stability of society. Second place was taken by American director Ryan Smith’s film Armed with a Song (Soldiers of Song), which tells about Ukrainian musicians during the war. And the third place was taken by Ukrainian director Taras Tomenko’s film Sentimental Journey to Planet Paradzhanov.

The Warsaw International Film Festival lasted from October 11 to 20. 139 films from different parts of the world took part in its program, including 84 full-length and 55 short films. Six Ukrainian tapes were among the participants.

The film Traffic received the Grand Prix of the festival (Traffic) directed by Teodora Anna Mihai, co-produced by Romania, Belgium and the Netherlands. Anatol Shuster won the Best Director award for the film Chaos and Silence (Chaos and Silence), Germany. The best screenplay went to Estonian screenwriter Liina Trishkinia-Vankhatalo for the film Loneliness (Lioness).
