Details: Ten leaders of the EU states, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council Antonio Costa arrived in Angola for the summit on peace in Ukraine.
“The informal summit is ongoing. The meeting is chaired by the president of the European Council. The meeting is attended by President von der Leyen, as well as the leaders of Poland, Spain, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Germany, Croatia, Slovakia, the Netherlands, Italy and Ireland,” said the interlocutor of “European Pravda”.
He added that the high representative of the EU for foreign and security policy Kaya Kallas is participating in the event via video link.
The leaders of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Greece, Finland, France, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Romania, Slovenia and Sweden are also present remotely.
The main issue on the agenda is the EU’s position on the peace plan for Ukraine, informing about the results of the negotiations in Geneva on November 23, and planning further joint actions of the European Union.
The venue of the meeting – the capital of Angola, Luanda – is due to the pre-planned joint summit of the EU with the African Union, which began in the morning of November 24.
As “European Truth” reported, before the start of the meeting, the President of the European Council, Antoniou Koshta had a telephone conversation with the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, “to find out his assessment of the situation.”
Notably, European leaders raised concerns about the 28-point plan after handing it to Kyiv last week before drafting their own. After that Kosta invited EU leaders for a special meeting on Monday dedicated to Ukraine and the “peace plan” of Donald Trump’s team.
