Therefore, in the framework of the Denmark assistance, 1.1 billion crowns are allocated for initiatives that support Ukraine’s defense, from maritime equipment and ending with the training and preparation of Ukrainian soldiers. These initiatives in the aggregate contribute to the strengthening of Ukraine’s combat capacity, ”says Defense Minister Troels Lund Polesen. In 2024, Ukraine and Denmark introduced a new mechanism for financing the procurement of weapons for the Armed Forces through compensation for contracts with Ukrainian producers. This mechanism was called “Danish Model”. According to this scheme, the Ukrainian side forms a detailed list of projects in need of funding, and Danish specialists carry out a detailed assessment of the capabilities of recommended companies and analyze their previous experience in execution of contracts.
In June 2025, at that time, Rustem Umerov reported that Ukraine’s defense support for the “Danish model” would be scale up to 1.3 billion euros during the year.
