Sky News has confirmed that the UK imposed sanctions against it in 2020 and it is still on the sanctions list.
“There are sufficient grounds to suspect that her actions in the presidential commission and then as president of the constituent assembly undermined democracy and the rule of law in Venezuela, including the usurpation of the powers of the National Assembly and their use to attack the opposition and hinder its participation in the political process,” says the document, which is quoted by the publication.
We are talking about financial sanctions, in particular the freezing of assets. The list also includes other members of Maduro’s government and his successors. The Venezuelan leader himself is not on the sanctions list.
Prehistory:
- After Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was captured by US special forces and extradited to the United States to stand trial on drug-trafficking charges, Delsey Rodriguez became Venezuela’s interim president.
- However, the US has said it will temporarily rule the country until a democratic transition of power is achieved.
- Trump also admitted that the United States could conduct a second military operation in Venezuela if Acting President Delsey Rodriguez does not cooperate with American officials.
