Details: The DBR emphasizes that in early July the Transcarpathian Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Western region was registered criminal proceedings on the grounds of the crime under Part 5 of Art. 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (excess of a military official or official authority). The investigation of this criminal proceedings was entrusted to the DBR territorial department in Lviv.
Investigators found that Shebestynya was drafted to military service on June 14, 2025 in Mukachevo. On the same day, the military commission under the Uzhgorod RTC and JV and was recognized as suitable for military service, did not claim health service.
Already in the military unit, on June 18, he left the place of service, and on June 19 he went to the Berehiv Regional Psychiatric Hospital, where he reported that he feels bad, has severe headache, and also, in his words, was injured by the head with suspected brain concussion. On the same day, Shebestin’s ambulance was taken to the Berehiv District Hospital, but the doctors did not find any serious damage to him, they say in the DBR.
On June 24, Shebestynya (with the consent) was transferred to the regional establishment for the provision of psychiatric care of the city of Berehove. On July 7, the Berehiv Police Department received a report that Shebesthen died on July 6 at a medical institution.
No signs of violent death and bodily harm were found during urgent investigative actions and examination of the body, the bureau emphasized.
In the framework of criminal proceedings, forensic examination was conducted, witnesses were questioned, including servicemen and doctors. Forensic examination also found no signs of violent death.
The investigation is ongoing.
That preceded: Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siyarto stated that the Ukrainian authorities were allegedly refusing to investigate the death of Hungary Joseph Shebesten in Transcarpathia, whom Budapest considers the victim of violence by TCC employees.
