Climate records. Anomalous heat in the middle of winter and will there be a strong frost and snow in February: interview with a forecaster

Synoptic Natalka Didenko, in an interview with NV Radio, spoke about the climatic records of the winter that had already taken place and reported what the weather would be in February.

– What happens to the weather, please explain? Why is it so warm and how much will it last?

– It was really not just warm, but anomalous warm, a little dry objective statistics. According to the Central Geophysical Observatory named after Boris Sreznevsky, in Kyiv, on January 30, the maximum air temperature reached a climate maximum over the entire observation period was almost +12 degrees. This is almost 4 degrees higher than the 2002 previous climatic record. I will not overburden you with numbers, of course, we feel it. But I want to emphasize, it was anomalous heat and several climatic records. January was very, very warm.

– She saw the snowdrops flourished near the house. People planted them last year, on flower beds bloom snowdrops simply at the end of January. On the one hand, it is very touching, and on the other you realize that the cold will probably come, tell us about it, please.

– Such waves of warming of heat were in different years. Therefore, there is nothing to wonder. It is simply anomalous heat to be fixed, made to statistical materials and then studied. Winter continues, these all touching flowers that have come out, even a little sad, because they will still be frozen in the near future. The next weekend, February 1-2 (Hooray, the final month of winter), is coming to Ukraine, which will develop into cooling. Next week, the estimated daytime air temperature will fluctuate from -3 to +3, and at night will be below zero. Somewhere -3 -8 degrees, in the middle of the week it is possible even to -8 -10. We have got rid of such frost, although for winter, for February it is not some scary numbers.

– What about precipitation, or to expect active heavy snow in February?

People ask a lot about it, worry, especially farmers. So far, I do not see any serious rainfall. The highest probability of rainfall next week is the southern part of Ukraine, the central regions and the East. West and north are mostly cloudy, albeit wet weather, and without significant rainfall. Therefore, it is not possible to talk about some snowfalls.

– How long will the cold weather last, how long will the promised cold will last for a long time?

It has not even started, it begins from tomorrow, we will live – we will see. We will not run so far in advance. The only thing I would like to say is to ask everyone, not to worry about cooling. Because -3 -6 degrees after +12, obviously, it is colder, and it is clear that the voltage, electricity consumption will increase immediately. Taking the opportunity, I would like to urge everyone to approach electricity consumption, because our daily comfort depends on it.

– And such warm weather is characterized by February only for Ukraine? What is the present winter in Europe?

– We will talk about February, it has not yet begun. January was generally warm everywhere, but to speak of Europe, let’s not forget, Ukraine is also Europe. With regard to climatic differences, it is all very subjective, it is Western Europe, which is the north, and Scandinavia, Spain …

– Very different weather in Europe, such a general conclusion can be drawn.

– Yes.
