It is noted that the ship currently bears various commercial rather than military markings and does not resemble any other established class of Chinese Navy ships. The possibility remains that this could be the first of its kind, supposedly a civilian research vessel.
As the publication notes, one feature in its design attracts attention, namely three superstructures, which are typical for aircraft carriers. Although traditionally there are one or two such “islands” on ships of this class, there are three on the new ship. And it is on the third structure that chimneys are brought out, which is a rather atypical solution. Also on the ship you can see the division into flight and hangar decks, which is a sign of an aircraft carrier.

The launch of the vessel took place around September-October of this year, as confirmed by satellite images. It is noteworthy that on it you can see an emblem that indicates its affiliation with the CSSC (China State Shipbuilding Corporation). It’s possible that the mystery craft could be some sort of custom training, test, and/or demonstration platform that the CSSC could use to test other future projects.
The publication also emphasizes that in 2022, the Chinese government ordered the development of a new amphibious ship, which should be equipped with a flight deck and a dock camera for the release and reception of landing craft. The requirements for development included the possibility of “dual” use. The hull length declared in the requirements was 200 meters, the width of the flight deck was 25 meters, the full water displacement was 15 thousand tons, the range was 5 thousand nautical miles, and the autonomy was 40 days.
