Carlson, Tenor and Rocket – NABU told who invented the nicknames for the participants in the embezzlement scheme in the energy industry

The nicknames “Rocket”, “Tenor” and “Carlson”, which are mentioned in the audio recordings made public by NABU regarding the investigation of a large-scale corruption scheme in the energy sector, were not invented by the detectives of the bureau, but by the members of the criminal organization themselves, the representative of NABU said.

Abakumov’s direct speech: “Let’s say right away that there was no manipulation regarding the nicknames we used in the story. We didn’t make them up, we didn’t assign any funny or not funny nicknames to anyone. These are all really code names that the criminal organization used in its activities.”

Details: He added that “one of the criteria” why NABU “went down the path of a criminal organization” was that “there was encrypted, veiled activity, (there were – ed.) nicknames, such direct veiled transfers of funds, law enforcement officers were involved in criminal activities.”

“Carlson is not a NABU cipher, it’s really on the recordings that we can hear ‘Carlson said to do this, Carlson said to do that,'” concluded Abakumov.

Prehistory:

• On the morning of November 10, the sources of “Ukrainian Pravda” reported that NABU detectives came to search Timur Mindych, a businessman and co-owner of the “Kvartal 95” studio, an associate of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
• Subsequently, UP sources reported that Mindich left the territory of Ukraine a few hours before the search.
• Later, NABU confirmed that, together with SAP, they are conducting a large-scale operation to expose corruption in the energy sector. According to anti-corruption experts, the participants in the investigation built a large-scale corruption scheme to influence strategic enterprises of the state sector, in particular JSC NAEK Energoatom.
• The National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office released part of the audio recordings from the investigation of a large-scale corruption scheme in the energy sector. The operation is codenamed “Midas”.
• “Energoatom” JSC confirmed that on November 10, the company’s office was being investigated by representatives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
• In his evening address, Zelenskyy stated in general terms that he supports the NABU and SAP investigation into corruption in the energy sector, which also includes his associate, but did not name any names.
