Law enforcement officers detained a 24-year-old girl, who the day before blew up a military serviceman’s SUV in the Obolon district of Kyiv.

According to the press service of the Kyiv police, based on the results of the investigation, the police and SBU officers in a few hours identified and detained a 24-year-old woman from Kyiv who was involved in the terrorist attack.

The investigation established that the woman was looking for a “part-time job” on social networks, where a representative of the Russian special services “approached” her last fall. He promised her a reward of $1,500 for carrying out a terrorist attack, but she never received the money.

The police claim that under the instructions of the “curator” the detainee independently made an explosive device at home, planted explosives under the car and installed a hidden camera to confirm the result in real time. When the serviceman approached the car, an explosion occurred.

A 24-year-old woman from Kyiv was informed of suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – a terrorist act.

The police add that the detainee is also suspected of setting fire to a soldier’s car, which she committed last December.

On the morning of January 4, there was an explosion of a Land Rover near a residential building on Heroiv Dnipra street in the Obolon district of Kyiv. As a result of the explosion, a serviceman and his friend were injured. The event was classified as a terrorist attack.

Police found a mobile phone near the epicenter of the explosion, which was used to broadcast the moment of the crime online to the customer.

The Security Service of Ukraine regularly reports on the detention of Russian agents, exposure and prevention of terrorist acts prepared by agents of the special services of the Russian Federation, in particular at military and civilian facilities. The Security Service records attempts to use recruited Ukrainians for terrorist attacks, including the organization of explosions, and calls on citizens to report suspicious offers.

The SBU emphasizes that a significant part – 22% – of those recruited by the Russian special services for their tasks in Ukraine are minors. RFE/RL’s investigative project “Schemy” previously discovered that Russian special services are massively using minor Ukrainians to set fire to the cars of armed forces servicemen and TCC buildings as part of the disinformation campaign of the Russian Federation, the purpose of which is to show that there is an active underground in Ukraine, which in this way opposes general mobilization.
