Amendments changed the law on stay in Germany. It should have been given an indication of the need to limit migration. The bill deprived persons with subsidiary protection, the rights to reunite with the family. Such protection is given to refugees who are threatened with a serious danger in the country of origin.
The authors explained the measure of “exhaustion” of the country’s integration capabilities “taking into account the reception of 1.8 million Ukrainian asylum and refugees.” Currently, recipients of defense have the right to call spouses and children to Germany.
In order to implement the measures, the authors proposed to give the Federal Police powers to restrict the freedom of deported refugees. The prosecutor’s office must now make the decision to place deportation prison.
The chairman of the Bundestag meeting Petro Pau reported that the document did not receive the majority of votes in the second reading. According to her, out of 693 deputies, 350 voted against and five abstained.
CDU leader Friedrich Merz stated that he “still voted for the right proposal.” This caused indignation in society and in the media. Although the politician excluded the opportunity to cooperate with AFD during the debate, even deputies of the CDU/CSS block voted against the bill.
Many accuse Mertz of departure from democratic principles, populism and cooperation with far -right. It is not excluded that this will affect the development of the election campaign to the Bundestag and Merz candidacy for the post of Chancellor of Germany.
