“This follows a moderate monthly decrease in the number of captured territories from June to August 2025. A noticeable decrease in the number of captured territories from August to September 2025 is very likely due to the fact that the Russian forces focused on the redeployment of several Russian divisions along the front line, in particular airborne divisions, from the Sumy region to the Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions,” says the message released by the British Ministry of Defense.
The intelligence also noted that Russian troops continue to advance in the Dnipropetrovsk region and are currently fighting for the cities of Oleksiivka and Novogrigorivka, capturing the city of Verbove in early to mid-October 2025.

According to reports, Russian forces have captured most of the high-rise buildings in the northern half of the city, and Ukrainian forces are conducting operations to clear them. In addition, the forces of the Russian Federation continue intensive efforts to encircle Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, a key Ukrainian logistics hub in Donbas,” the message reads.
