This is a slight decrease compared to the estimated 430,000 losses Russia suffered in 2024, the highest annual figure, according to the report. Russia probably suffered approximately 1,213,000 total casualties.
British intelligence notes that Russia’s average daily casualty rate in December 2025 was 1,130 soldiers, according to a report from the General Staff of the Armed Forces, while Russian average daily casualty rates from August to December 2025 were the five lowest monthly averages recorded since April 2024.
“The monthly level of Russian losses has increased again in connection with the intensification of the offensive on the entire front line. Russia is likely to continue to suffer high casualties throughout January 2026 due to sustained infantry assaults with amphibious assaults on multiple fronts,” the report said.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on January 14, during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia lost about 1,221,940 soldiers.
Russia does not officially disclose its losses. Moscow last reported the number of people killed in September 2022, when 5,937 people died.
