Britain will sell Typhoon fighters to Turkey for $10.7 billion

London and Ankara signed an agreement for the sale of Eurofighter Typhoon fighters during Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s visit to Turkey. Details: The agreement signed on Monday provides for the sale of 20 Typhoon fighter jets by Britain to Turkey, which is “the largest deal for the sale of fighter jets in the last almost 20 years,” the British government said. The deal will also help save 20,000 jobs across the country, it added. “It will also strengthen Turkey’s advanced combat capabilities, strengthening NATO’s position in a key region and improving interoperability between our air forces,” the statement said. Commenting on the signing of the deal, Starmer called it “a win for British workers, a win for our defense industry and a win for NATO security”. Typhoon fighters, also known as Eurofighters, are produced in a partnership between Britain, Germany, Spain and Italy. In July, Turkey and Britain signed a preliminary deal on Eurofighter jets after Germany reportedly decided to drop its long-standing opposition to selling the jets to Ankara. Turkey is considering the acquisition of Eurofighter jets and other modern aircraft as a temporary solution until it begins operating its own fifth-generation KAAN fighter jet, which is expected to happen no earlier than 2028. Recently, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Johann Wadeful, supported the expansion of cooperation with Turkey in the field of defense industry.”, — write: www.pravda.com.ua
