London “strongly condemns Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified” decision to expel a British diplomat last month and its baseless accusations against British staff, the British ministry said.
“By summoning the Russian ambassador, a senior FCDO official made it clear that Britain will not tolerate intimidation of British embassy staff, so we are retaliating today by revoking the accreditation of the Russian diplomat,” a British Foreign Office spokesman said.
The ministry also added that they are deeply disappointed by the fact that Russia constantly seeks to disrupt the work of British diplomatic missions and curb British support for Ukraine.
In January, Russia revoked the accreditation of one of the employees of the British Embassy in Moscow, ordering him to leave the territory of the Russian Federation. According to the media, the Russian FSB accused the British diplomat Gareth Samuel Davis of working undercover for the British special services.
