US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will travel to Italy this weekend, where he will participate in a meeting of foreign ministers of the Group of Seven countries next week, the US State Department said.

According to the report, at the meeting in Italy, Blinken will discuss such issues as “conflicts in the Middle East, Russia’s war against Ukraine, security in the Indo-Pacific region, as well as the crises in Haiti and Sudan.”

During his Nov. 23-27 visit after the G7 talks conclude, Blinken also plans to meet with Pope Francis at the Vatican to discuss pressing international issues, including the Middle East and Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

From 2024, Italy presides on a rotating basis in the G7, which also includes the United States, Canada, Japan, France, Germany and the United Kingdom.

This meeting will take place against the background of Western allies allowing Ukraine to strike with Western long-range weapons deep into Russia and Moscow’s recent attack on Ukraine with an “experimental ballistic missile.”
