This is reported by the French animal health watchdog ESA, writes Reuters.
Despite the high number of cases, the overall number remains lower than in 2022, when the EU experienced its worst bird flu crisis in history.
For comparison, during the same period last year, 31 outbreaks of the disease were recorded, which is mainly spread by migrating wild birds.
“All these cases in Europe show that the virus is still far from disappearing”– said the director of the French poultry industry group Anvol, Yann Nedelek.
The World Organization for the Protection of Animals reported that the first cases of bird flu this season were recorded in Slovakia and Belgium. In the latter country, because of this, it was ordered to keep all poultry indoors.
Two outbreaks were also detected in France, where an annual campaign to vaccinate ducks on farms was launched. An increase in cases of bird flu is also recorded in Spain, Germany and Poland – the leading producer of poultry in the EU.
According to the World Health Organization, the risks of contracting the virus for humans remain low. However, cases of infection are recorded among those who had close contact with sick animals.
The WHO believes that the virus needs to be controlled because it is increasingly spreading to other animal species besides birds.
We remind you that the bird flu virus is increasingly being detected in mammals. In particular, the disease was discovered in a dolphinwho died in the US, as well as the British sheep, subantarctic seals, sea elephantsas well as tigers, lions and panthers Vietnamese.
