The Pechersk Court of Kyiv has chosen a preventive measure in the form of 24-hour house arrest for Ilya Babik, one of the policemen, whom the State Bureau of Investigation suspects of beating a man near the building of the Holosiiv RTCC.

According to the correspondent of Radio Svoboda, he will be under 24-hour house arrest until December 18.

The prosecutor’s office requested such a precautionary measure. The defense did not object, stating that at this stage of the pre-trial investigation, it is proportionate and sufficient to ensure obligations. During the court session, the lawyer said that her client repents and sincerely regrets what he has done.

The court chose the same preventive measure for another suspect – Dmytro Tsyganenko.

According to the State Bureau of Investigation, the police officers hit the man numerous times on the head and body, as a result of which the victim received multiple bruises. It is also known that the suspects beat the man after he sprayed pepper spray in the car.

Police officers are suspected of exceeding authority or official authority by a law enforcement officer.
