US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that the work of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine is important, but decided not to comment on the issue of its future after the arrival of the administration of US President-elect Donald Trump.

“Regarding the Contact Group: Your question is whether the next administration will decide to continue this work. This should be the decision of the next administration. This is the decision they will approve regarding the continuation of the Contact Group. I’m not going to speculate right now on whether that’s going to happen,” Austin said at the Rammstein-style post-meeting briefing.

According to him, the work of the Contact Group is important not only for Ukraine, but also “for the United States of America, for Europe and for the whole world.”
Also, the US Secretary of Defense noted that “I have repeatedly heard from my colleagues that they really think it is important and believe that this format has worked well.”

“Let’s see how everything will happen. Of course, it’s not the only format that can work, but they think it’s important,” Austin said.

On January 9, the 25th meeting of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine was held in Germany at the Ramstein Air Base. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who presided over his latest Rammstein-style meeting, announced an aid package worth about $500 million.
