Details: According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck at 9:05 a.m. local time at a depth of 10 kilometers and was accompanied by numerous aftershocks.

“The energy released by the tectonic movement destroyed houses in remote Himalayan villages, shook a nearby Tibetan holy city and scared visitors to Everest Base Camp,” the report said.
The epicenter of the earthquake in Tingri District on the Tibetan Plateau, was located near the border with Nepal, about 50 miles north of the world’s highest mountain.
According to local authorities, at least 130 people were injured. More than 1,000 houses in Tingri district were damaged.
What happened before: Before that, it was reported that a powerful earthquake occurred in the southwestern Chinese region of Tibet on the border with Nepal, as a result of which 53 people were killed and another 62 were injured.
