A woman has been detained in Lviv Oblast, suspected of involvement in a recent series of explosions that resulted in fatalities and injuries. This information was confirmed by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko during a press briefing.
According to Mykola Mereta, the head of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the detained individual is believed to be directly connected to the criminal act. He stated, “A person has been detained in one of the cities of Lviv Oblast, who may be related to the commission of a criminal offense, specifically as the direct executor of this crime.” Authorities are currently working to identify other potential participants in the incident.
“We have many procedural actions ahead of us to reconstruct the timeline of the crime, including both the moments leading up to it and those following it,” Mereta added.
Subsequently, the Office of the Prosecutor General reported that the arrested woman, who may be linked to the terrorist act, is a citizen of Ukraine.
Details on the Lviv Explosions
The explosions occurred in Lviv on the night of February 22, resulting in casualties. The incident has been classified as a terrorist act under Article 258 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which pertains to acts that cause severe consequences.
As confirmed by the regional prosecutor’s office, a 23-year-old police officer lost her life in the blasts. Additionally, a patrol vehicle and a civilian car sustained damage. The total number of injured individuals is still being determined.
“According to operational information, at approximately 00:30, a report was received at the ‘102’ emergency number regarding a break-in at a store on Danilyshyna Street, 20 in Lviv. Upon the arrival of the patrol police crew, an explosion occurred. A second explosion took place when another crew arrived on the scene,” the statement indicated.
In comments to the media, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi clarified that the building where the explosions occurred was not residential, but housed commercial establishments.
A woman has been arrested in connection with the explosions in Lviv that resulted in the death of a police officer and injuries to others. Authorities are investigating further to identify additional suspects involved in the incident.
