- Mass protests have been ongoing in Iran since the end of December 2025, which began due to the economic crisis and turned into an anti-government uprising. According to human rights defenders, the number of dead has already exceeded 500 people.
- On January 11, Trump publicly warned Iran that the United States would “step in” and help the protesters win their freedom if the ayatollah’s regime resorted to deadly violence against the demonstrators.
- The international human rights organization Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO) confirmed the death of 648 demonstrators during the mass protests that swept Iran. Human rights defenders emphasize that due to the information blockade, the true scale of the tragedy is much greater. According to IHR sources, the real number of those killed may exceed 6,000 people.
