Not only X and Instagram, but also Tiktok, which is in danger of being blocked in the US, may have a clone based on the decentralized AT protocol.

Entrepreneur and investor Mark Cuban is ready to finance an alternative to TikTok built on the Bluesky protocol.

“I am willing to invest in supporting anyone who creates a TikTok replacement built on the AT protocol. … If you make an MVP — a minimum viable product — so I can see it, that would be all the better,” he said in a video posted on TikTok.

Cuban asked interested developers to respond in the comments to the TikTok post. He also emphasized that AT has many advantages, one of which is that it cannot be bought or closed.

“And more importantly, when you build an AT protocol, it’s extensible, so nobody can just buy it, nobody can just shut it down,” the investor notes.

Cuban’s statement came amid a possible ban on TikTok in the US already this week. Also, many users are now looking for alternatives to such social networks as X (Twitter) by Elon Musk and Facebook, Instagram, Threads owned by Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta. The latter this month radically changed their policy, moving from excessive moderation to almost complete rejection of it. Against this background, many users choose to switch to Bluesky, which works on the open AT protocol for decentralized social network applications. Developers are already trying to port Instagram features to Bluesky to ease this transition.
