— I want to start with the statement of the US presidential candidate from the Republican Party, Donald Trump, who said that Zelensky wants the victory of the candidate from the Democratic Party, Kamala Harris. He also repeated the thesis that Zelensky is the most successful traveling salesman in history, because he allegedly always leaves the USA with 60 billion dollars. What does this mean for us?

— This means that there is a certain aggravation of the fronts. You see, until now, Zelenskyi has not correctly spoken out for either Trump or Harris. He has no right to do such a thing and he is very careful about all these issues.

So whether it is true that Zelensky would like it or not, we do not know. We can guess, since Harris should have continued the policy [чинного президента Джо] Biden And Trump declares that he would like to completely change this policy in principle. One can imagine that it would be logical that Zelensky would support Harris. But he didn’t say that. And Trump is just guessing here based on some kind of logical or illogical assumptions.

But it sharpens the front lines in this way. He is now forcing Zelenskyi to say: “No, I don’t care who wins. I support the democratic system of America, I am ready to cooperate with this or that president. I am sure that everyone supports Ukraine.”

This is a tricky game, in my opinion. Trump knows that Zelensky does not support him. Of course, he doesn’t know this based on what Zelensky himself said – you can figure it out. Having declared that Zelensky is against Trump, he now forces Zelensky to speak neutrally about Harris and relatively positive about Trump himself.

And so, I think Trump wants to win certain, so to speak, rhetorical points here. He will then be able to say: “Look, the president of Ukraine is ready to accept my proposals, my plans.”

— The scheduled meeting between Trump and Zelensky. It is on it that the same plan for the victory of Ukraine should be presented. Does Trump’s statement call this meeting into question?

– I think that rather not. It will simply create a kind of rhetorical framework in which the meeting will take place. Zelensky now knows that when he meets with Trump, Trump will already treat him with a certain skepticism and will demand certain more or less positive statements from him.
