Details: In the statement which Hungary did not support EU countries emphasized that Nicolás Maduro did not have the legitimacy of a democratically elected president, and advocated a peaceful, self-led transition to democracy with respect for the country’s sovereignty.

The statement emphasized that the EU shares the priority of fighting transnational organized crime and drug trafficking, at the same time, “these challenges must be solved through constant cooperation in full compliance with international law and the principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty.”
The EU said it is in close contact with the US, as well as regional and international partners, to support and facilitate dialogue between all parties involved, leading to a democratic, inclusive and peaceful solution to the crisis through Venezuelan-led negotiations.
“Respecting the will of the Venezuelan people remains the only way for Venezuela to restore democracy and resolve the current crisis,” the statement emphasized.
At this critical moment, the EU added, it is extremely important that all participants in the process fully respect human rights and international humanitarian law.
