Details: Judge Juan Mercan rejected the arguments of Trump’s lawyers, who argued that the Supreme Court’s decision on the president’s immunity for acting within the limits of his official authority exempts the former president from liability. Trump’s lawyers argued that the immunity ruling should extend to the bribery case.
The prosecution insisted that the crimes against Trump were committed before he was elected president.
“Trump will most likely appeal this decision and called the criminal cases brought against him a politically motivated witch hunt,” the publication said.
Prehistory:
- A jury in New York found Donald Trump guilty in May of this year of falsifying reports to hide the payment of $130,000 to porn actress Stormy Daniels for keeping quiet about their intimate relationship.
- Trump, who was convicted by a jury in May, was previously expected to be sentenced on November 26.
