Details: Before the meeting of the International Telecommunication Union (ICE), Switzerland supported a joint declaration in which it called for the organization to take measures on Russia.

The declaration states that, since 2023, “systematic and purposeful obstacles” and interventions have affected European civilian satellite networks.

The sources of these obstacles were found in several Russian cities and in the occupied Crimea. They threaten public safety, as well as air and maritime safety, according to the statement.

The signatories of the declaration note that in June the situation with obstacles has deteriorated significantly and spread to almost the entire territory of Poland and Lithuania.

They also regretted that the efforts of several international organizations, including ITUs, and countries to establish dialogue with Russia, “were ignored or have not led to any changes.”

Last year, European satellite companies reported attempts to intercept a television signal from Russia, which leads to interruption of speech and broadcasting propaganda for children.

Sweden also stated that Russia is behind “harmful obstacles”, intentionally aimed at the country’s satellite network, which she first noticed a few days after NATO accession.
