What is proposed to be changed – told Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Mykola Trofymenko during a briefing at the “Ukraine” Media Center.
“We have a task – to create conditions and keep our youth in Ukraine as much as possible. To this end, we are already working with the rules for admission to Ukrainian universities in 2026. Because on October 20, our admission campaign ended, and the next one will begin.
We are waiting for the adoption of the law in the Verkhovna Rada. After that, we will put the text on the admission rules up for public discussion, we have already started a discussion with the universities and the rectors’ union regarding possible changes. Our task is to simplify the text so that it is understandable to everyone.” Trofymenko noted.
Yes, one of the likely changes is refusal to use motivational letters. According to the Deputy Minister of Education and Science, “it has turned into a real business.”
“The results of inspections by the State Quality Service of Universities and other institutions of higher education, where we record abnormal spikes in the education of men 25+, there may be identical letters of motivation, 30-40 identical texts with different signatures. This is not very correct and we will fight against it.” Trofymenko noted.
In addition, according to him, they are planning reduce the total number of applications that an applicant can submit – from 15 to 12. At the same time, the number of applications for budget places will remain unchanged – 5. According to Mykola Trofymenko, this should encourage entrants to make a more conscious choice of specialties and universities.
“We really want our entrants to make the right choice. That the share of those who enter according to the first priority grows, so that the applicant understands which direction he wants to connect his life with.” said the deputy minister.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine also hopes to replace the submission of documents on the status of a participant in hostilities (UBD) with receiving their data from the bases. This will help to minimize the number of documents in paper form that the applicant collects.
Ukrainians who graduated from high school in European countries are also considering the possibility the use of the results of national final exams instead of NMT when entering a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree in medicine, pharmacy, and veterinary science).
“If our citizens studied in schools abroad, took exams there, then we plan to recognize such results instead of NMT results.
We have this year as an experiment of recognition Polish “matriculation”and I think that we will expand the list of such opportunities next year.” – explained the official.
