35-year-old tennis player Zhang Shuai (#601 WTA) lost her first round match at the WTA 500 hard court tournament in Seoul.
The Chinese lost to the “neutral” tennis player Veronika Kudermetova – 4:6, 3:6. This was the second match between tennis players, in the first personal meeting the Chinese player was stronger.
It was Zhang Shuai’s 24th loss in a row. For the third time, she rewrote the absolute anti-record for the number of consecutive defeats in the history of tennis. Before that, it belonged to Vincent Spade on the ATP tour, who lost 21 matches in a row from October 1999 to June 2000.
Kudermetova will play Lyudmila Samsonova in the next round.
