The Ukrainian tennis player reached the quarterfinals of the tournament, beating the world’s seventh ranked, “neutral” Mirra Andreeva in the 1/8 finals in two sets – 6:2, 6:4.
This result allowed Svitolina to repeat her personal record at the Australian Open. She previously reached the quarter-finals in Melbourne in 2015, 2016 and 2025, but stopped short of the semi-finals each time. In addition, the victory over Andreeva was Elina’s 33rd in the Australian Open main draw matches. This is her best performance in one Grand Slam tournament, she has as many matches won only at Roland Garros.
It is especially telling that Svitolina reached the quarterfinals without losing a single set. For the Ukrainian, this is only the third such case at Grand Slam tournaments in her entire career. She previously managed to get to this stage without losing a set at the US Open in 2019 and 2021. The victory over Andreeva was also Svitolina’s first of the season against a tennis player from the top 10 of the world ranking and allowed her to extend her winning streak at the start of the year to 9 matches.
In the quarterfinals of the Australian Open 2026, Svitolina will face a serious test – a match against the third ranked player in the world, the American Coco Goff. In personal meetings, Goff is ahead – 2:1, but the Ukrainian’s excellent form gives reason to expect a tense confrontation.
